Warriors vs Knicks – NBA Picks and Parlays 10/26/18
Welcome back to LazyBets NBA picks and parlays Friday night edition! Tonight we focus on the Warriors vs Knicks. It’s truly an amazing feat that this article is going up. Somehow I’m awake at 1:00 CST to write this. Like many 30-year-old men, I don’t smell the best right now. My eyes are glazed over. The 12:45 pm afternoon alarm woke me as if it was 6 am. That’s because the wee hours of the morning were spent in front of my television and submersed in another world. That’s right, I too was playing Red Dead Redemption 2. If you weren’t, you’re missing out!
Much like me dragging myself to the keyboard, the Knicks may find themselves dragging to MSG tonight. Curry and his all-stars are massive favorites even though they’re playing on the opposite coast. The Warriors are -12 with one of our favorite sportsbooks, MyBookie. Let’s jump right in!
The Golden State Warriors have fared well after a tough first few games. It looks like the Warriors have begun the NBA season against three of the better defensive teams in the league this year. The Thunder, Nuggets, and Jazz have all proven to be in the top half of the league for defense this year.
The Warriors are coming off of a 50 point performance from Stephen Curry. It’s the second 50 point game of the NBA campaign and we’re just a week into the season. That’s been the type of league it’s been this year. We called an under to go to 4-0 on our free NBA picks this year, but that’s been far from the norm. Scoring in the league this year is higher than it has ever been.
The Warriors and performances like Curry’s are being strived for by the rest of the league. While scoring 140 in a game was once thought of as All-Star fodder, the Warriors did that in the last game. The crazy part? It didn’t even go to overtime. In the process, the Warriors gave up 122 points. That’s far from good defense.
With advanced stats taking over baseball, football, and hockey, basketball is not exempt. It’s been proven that chucking a 3 is more efficient than busting ass on defense. You’re watching the results of sabermatricians and the expected value of three pointers. This is perhaps the softest league defensively that the NBA has ever seen (outside of the Celtics).
The Warriors are 5th in the league in offense. That’s shocking considering they’re averaging nearly 120 points per game. The New Orleans Pelicans have been virtually unstoppable this year. They rank #1 at an amazing 132 points per game that will be tough to keep up for 82 games. The Warriors will likely return to being the #1 team in the league offensively when the sample size plays out. Demarcus Cousins will only help the situation once he is healthy.
Golden State is 11th in the league in team defense. Even though the Warriors are above league average on defense, they are still averaging a high 109.6 points against per game against teams that don’t have great offenses. That’s of note here against the Knicks.
Highlighting the Warriors defense is their success in defending the three-point line. Opponents are averaging just 29.3% from distance against the Dubs on the year. That leagues the league.
The Knicks are a bad team without the services of all-world “power forward” Kristaps Porzingis who remains out. They’ve won just 1 of their first five games and their road doesn’t get any easier here. The Knicks only win on the season came in the opener against the Atlanta Hawks.
Head Coach David Fizdale is known for his grit and grind style, but the Kicks haven’t been able to perform up to his defensive standards so far this season. It’s game 6 and the Knicks aren’t expected to do much without Porzingis. There’s only so much you can do when the best players on the floor are Kevin Knox, Enes Canter, and Tim Hardaway Jr. It’s a tough roster to work with right now.
The Knicks rank 25th in the league in defense and 24th in the league in offense. They’re putting up just 106.4 points per game. That’s troubling in a league where buckets and trips to the line are coming easier than ever. The defense is giving up a gaudy 110.2 The Celtics, Hawks, Nets, Bucks and Heat aren’t necessarily known for being powerful offensive teams.
The Knicks have been helpless. They have no chance of winning this game. Their goal will be remaining within 10 points. That would be “striking distance.” If their defense doesn’t hold up, you could see 70 for the Warriors at half time. A youth movement could be on tap for the second 24 minutes of play.
Warriors vs Knicks Trends
The Warriors are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. the eastern conference. They’re 5-1 in their last 6 ATS contests against teams that have a winning percentage below 40%. The Warriors are 5-1 ATS in their last 5 games against losing teams.
The Knicks are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Knicks are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games when their opponent allows 100 or more in the previous contest. The Knicks are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 against the West.

Every team enjoys showing out when they’re in New York. The Warriors are no different. Both games between these two were close to the 12-point spread. This year should be different considering the Knicks current run of form, injuries, and the early season form of the Warriors.
